So his mom sent him to another school. oh good . he really segragation over in america? I thought it was over. why people continue to be an make friend within their own race?

my son is also biracial and he is in a school that is mostly white. he does not even notice that there are few black kids in the class, but he is only 6. i would send him to the best school that you can, but also the one where he would be the most comfortable. if he will feel better going to school with black kids, than that is where i would send him. you don't want him to hate school. you can see to it that he is socialized at home.
my son tends to be friend the black kids because they are more like him. he probably feels like he can relate with them more. but he also has his white friends.
we have to expose our children to the real world. even more so when they are biracial. no matter what school they are in.
good luck and happy new year!

In the school where I work, and where both my children attend, there is just about every race and religion you can think of. It's why I like it here. However, I think it's natural for people gravitate to "their own", whether it's the music they like, the clothes they wear, the way they style their hair, or, of course, the color of their skin.
I don't know where you live, but if they're still segregating the schools, you should try to move some place that has established a better sense of desegregation.
If that's not an option, choose the school with the best record for academic achievement. At least they'll be assured of a good education. But make your kids part of the process; listen to what they say. They should know you support their feelings.

This isn't the 50's. Can we stop with the white and black schools. I'm biracial and my parents sent me to private school. A little more than half of the students are white. The rest are black and other. I didn't even notice as a child. Don't overstep your boundaries as a parent.

I understand your question, though your phrasing is a bit off. I'm black and went to a predominantly black grammar school. Even though I didn't have a bad experience at the school, I still felt like the lack of diversity hindered my knowledge of other cultures so all I knew about was black culture, clothes, music, etc. I was lucky enough to go to a diverse high school. There is some small racial issues but from personal experience I'll say it's much better. Not only did I get to learn about other cultures, religions, beliefs, and their viewpoints of the world but I learned how to accept other races. Past the fact I've made many friends of different races (however I can't help but to say that people from my own race gave me trouble for hanging out with people from different races). People tend to make friends with people of their own race because that's what their comfortable with.

You should've thought & worried about this (and the plethora of other racial questions you & your family will have to deal with) before creating offspring. If it is (was) no concern then, don't be concerned now.

Children (as you once were sans "ren") are very perceptive, and for the most part extremely unwise to the cultures of the world. Your feelings, even if never spoken, will be felt or sensed which could only further the dilema.

True, you're only one voice, and there are many out there who are bigots, racists, seperatists, and there's nothing you can do about that except be supportive. Your biracial kids should be educated equally on both of their racial origins...and as for the school: send them to the best available in your area.

I thought there was no such thing as black and white school, I thought they did away with that? Well, I guess I was wrong. Ever thought about homeschool, I was homeschooled, I know a family who has biracial kids who are homeschooled, they seemed to do quite well. Then again, sometimes for some people public school is better. I would just try to send them to the least racist school in the area. Whatever you do, I wouldn't split them up.

I think you should send them to a mixed shcool that has its share of blacks whites and thats open to all other different cultures. It will never be over when people are stl going threw the whole black and white phrase. But by sending your child to a mixed school it helps them better themselves for the real world the real Mixed world so people fail to realize that but truth is weather you like it or not your are going to come into contact with people of different cultures than your self so you should do your kids a favor and put them in a school that has its share of all races

segregation is over. shorta schools can still be somewhat segregated due to things like people moving or just taking their kids out of certian schools.

So you end up with things like a school that is mostly white or black because of where it is located. But those are really black or white school they are just schools that happened to have more students of one race then the other.

as for what school to send you kids, the truth is that each will hold it's own pitfalls. But I would say just look at which school will give you kids the best eduaction. Which is funded better, which has more programs, etc.

Its shocking that its still that way but sadly it is.I say do your research and find out what one is the better school.Truthfully as they get older they very well may be on the reciving end of some type of rascisim. ie:go to the black school, kids say that they arnt black.OR they go to the white school and the kids say they arnt white. You can combat this by raising your kids with respect for everyone, and thats a lesson that they don't teach in school, but will last a life time.

In most cities there are no "black" or "white" schools. They are racially mixed as best they can be. I do not quite understand why the racial problems still exist here except that there are groups of people that attempt to get our children to have racial predjudice everywhere (it seems). Someday, I hope this is all ended. I am not sure what to recommend that you do. Try to send them to school with the neighborhood school children. Hopefully that will help. Have a great week!
