I first became a volunteer firefighter so that I could be involved in the community in a special way. As a firefighter, you often find yourself smack dab in the middle of something that everyone can else can only watch from the side. And, as cheezy as it sounds, helping your fellow man is very fulfilling. It's good to know that people call *you* when they're having a terrible day and there is something that you can do to fix it.

I made firefighting my career because I thought there would be no better way to earn a living... Almost five years later, I've proven that I was right.

Probably not. Huck doesn't like to pay taxes. In 2006 when he was ending his term as Governor, he registered at a wedding gift registry since he wouldn't be taxed for any gifts he might receive as he left office for a marriage. Of course at the time, he was already married. So, maybe not.

Started a volunteer fire department years ago as our area had no protection and no EMS. Now we do.

Bought the first pumper out of my own pocket and after we got things going pretty good and had built a firehouse, sold it to the dept.

I get to play with boy toys.

Seriously, it is the feeling of being able to help at a time when people need help the most.
