He said in the Rolling Stone interview that the song is not about britney but rather was taken from a friend's perspective. Justin said that he could definately relate tot he story though.

I heard on the radio that it might just be a rumor. But yes I have heard of people thinking that, that song is referring to Britany Spears.

I heard on Z100 that it is from one of Justin's friends perspective - not Britney.
Cry me a River was for Britney - and they sound kind of similar, don't you think?

I heard online that supposedly a situation happened with his friend and his friend's gf and the song was about their incident and has nothing to do with him. can't remember the site though
