If you're the former employer and a business owner, and if you can support your position, don't let her get away with this. Please see an attorney and follow through. What's done to her should be an example in order to deter others from slandering just for the hell of it. You may not recover what it costs you, but my Mom worked for an attorney who got judgements against people who hurt others and could never pay it off. They had to show up per court order, weekly or monthly, and pay the $5, $10, $20, whatever the court decided they should be nicked for what they did, no matter how poor they were, until the day they paid it off or they died.
This does get around. My neighbor knows someone who says, "That's the worst mistake I ever made in my life." The cash you get isn't the issue. Nor is vengeance. The issue is to make it an example to deter others. The more people do this, the better it works.

First off as a wise neighbor always said "If they are talking about me they are leaving someone else alone." Then she would laugh. What can you do? For a couple hundred dolllars you can whine at an attorney who in the end will say thanks for bucks because two to one you probably need a tape, dated and with her verbal consent that you are taping her saying those things; oh the witnesses are great but will they testify in a court of law? In all likelyhood unless very well compensated: no. nada. void. She is blowing off steam and it hurts; I have been through worse. My reputation after four years of college went south real quick by a relative and false accusations-he succeeded where yours did not...and like you, I was very innocent and a victim.
What I would do is offer those who did come to you with the info a gratitude of your service...see, I do not know what you do...In business you will have a bad egg that takes away customers with their opinions. It is sad if you are trying to do what is right...You could also post a declaration at your office that this was a disgruntled employee who quit voluntarily. I hope it blows over quickly because people tend to forget easily...Peace

Having had a family business for 17 years I can say that we had a couple of similar experiences. None were truthful, both were spiteful cases of sour grapes.
Unfortunately, the system is not equal in that as the employer you have to watch every word you say, or they can come after you, and usually win, but it's downright difficult on your end as you have to agencies to go to. They usually go to Unemployment and start sticking it to you there.
The only resource I know of for you is a law suit and those are never pretty, always expensive.
What we did was let our time honored reputation and great rapport with our clients do the talking, yeah you lose a couple clients in a case like this, because in human nature you always have people that listen to one side of the story and form their opinion, on a shallow level. We proudly maintained our integrity by not stooping down to the level of the slanderer, and our intelligent clients appreciated that and stayed loyal. Good luck!

Well, in my opinion, this is hearsay at the moment. Can you get anyone to prepare and sign a statement as to the content of the derogatory remarks. Then, how have you been harmed or what are your losses. If these are slanderous statements, talk to an attorney. We have free speech in the US and sometimes we are fair game when people feel vengeful. If you can prove that your company has lost money as a result of what she has said, then maybe you have grounds to pursue it in court. You can't really muzzle someone (at least I don't think so).

Step 1 - get a restraining order that she stay away from you, your clients, and your other employees.
Step 2 - Don't do anything else. Respect your clients enough that they have the sensibility to ignore her and it seems that the 2-3 you mentioned not only have that, but loyalty to you as well.
Trust your clients. If any of them ask you, be upfront and honest about it and if any suddenly leave ask them why and tell them that you respect their choice.

Yes, you need to contact an attorney. This is defamation of character and it is against the law. Many states may differ in how these cases are handled but you do need to speak with an attorney and they will be able to explain to you in more detail what can be done. No. I say this because of the fact i think maximum government workers are underpaid for the jobs that they do. For the sacrifices maximum of them make. If the Gov replaced into severe approximately saving money, then they does not hand out huge contracts to businesses who perform foreign places. lots of the civilians working in a wrestle zone do the comparable interest that a soldier replaced into knowledgeable to do, make 5 cases as lots, and get carry of the comparable scientific, housing(or greater efficient), and different advantages that one would affiliate with a struggling with soldier. sort new suv's, and autos for contractors, whilst infantrymen await buses lol.
