Where in the eaf does the process of photosynthesis take place?

Photosynthesis mainly takes place in the cells of the palidade mesophyll (vertical, elongate cells just under the upper epidermis of dicot leaves) and in the cells of the spongy mesophyll. The guard cells that surround the stomata also have chloroplasts, but I wouldn't consider them to be a big influence on the total photosynthesis of a leaf.
