I have a regularly irregular cycle...I go between 30 and 60 days, usually around 40. I am wondering if that will cause problems because we want to get pregnant...should I try the ovulation testers? And when would be the right time to test?

ovulation tests can be expensive and not always accurate - you can ovulate and it may not show up on the tester. So you could be wasting your money, especially if your periods are that far apart. If I were you, I would assume that you probably ovulate about 2 weeks from the time you get your period the way a normal period works. So if you expect your period around 40 days, you probably ovulate around day 25-ish... My strategy for getting pregnant is to have sex starting around day 20 of your cycle every other day until you get your period. that way you have a good chance of inseminating the egg. You could also talk to your Dr. about taking a drug like clomid that helps you ovulate so you can make sure to get a more regular cycle and ovulate too.

The every other day method worked for us. Good luck!

Your ovulatory cycle and your menstrual cycle are two different things. But and irregular cycle such as yours is the first sign something is wrong. But do not begin to worry about your fertility until your have been trying for about a year. 60% of couples get pregnant within the first 6 months. 95% are pregnant within the first year. Good luck!

If you're trying to get pregnant, you need to go to your ob/gyn or a fertility specialist and the Dr. will be able to give you a complete check-up and answer any of your questions. Good Luck!!!
