It Could Be Several Causes, BENT NEEDLE, TENSION TOO TIGHT,SPOOL OF THREAD CATCHING, also Try a good Quality Needle,and/or a different size needle also BLOW OUT The DEBRIS around the BOBBIN AREA

sounds like the timing is out, and or maybe a little lubrication is in order.
My Dad repaired sewing machines for a well known Tampon company for 21 years, so I've picked up a few tricks lol

Maybe you need to adjust the bobbin tension cause that will pull too tightly on your spool thread

By the sounds of it, the flange next to elliptical arm has either sheared or has slipped its bearing.
Use a 3/8ths Gripley under the rotating cam which joins to the elliptical arm under the flange bracket being careful not to connect with the sprocket containing all the periatical screws which drive the forward linkages.
If that doesn't work then drop the whole thing into the bin and take up knitting instead!

Make sure you're using the proper needle for your material. Try adjusting your tension. The bobbin could also be wound incorrectly.

Check the cotton reel...Is the cotton just off the reel twisted around underneath on the stand it is on?
