Don't let your mind wander - really it is what slows us down when we read. The speed reading techniques may cause you to miss some detail that may be important for a test so you want to read for comprehension (since it doesn't sound like you are reading this for enjoyment). Force yourself to make the time to read it too. Now quit avoiding it and got read.

Choose a place to make into your "reading spot". This will be a place that you only read in, so that when you're here, your body is in "read mode". Make it a place that's completely free from any distractions. Don't read in any room with tv/computer/video games or anything else distracting. Make sure the people you live with know that when you're in this "reading spot" that they are absolutely not allowed to bother you unless someone is bleeding, broken, or dead. And, it might help if you this spot is NOT your bed. Your body may associate the bed as "sleep time" instead of "reading time". Good luck!
