What a great man. This is someone who is prepared to stand up to US exploitation of South America and to stand up against the US in general. I hope he goes through with his plans to start trading his oil in Euros and then maybe the US will take note of him in a proper more respectful manner.

Chavez is a truly interesting figure. A sort of Latin Hughey Long, he understands the mind of the masses and suffering that has produced it. I think he really believes in the cause of the people against the money driven interestests that exploit them. He knows, as we should, that much of that money is American.
For a century the U.S. has supported dictator after murderous dictator all over Latin America as long as they served the interests of corporate America. But when a figure emerges from the people, an Allende a Castro or a Chavez, there is hysteria in D.C. and we get all wigged out about human rights and have to give arms to the Iranians to mount armed oposition to democratically elected governments in Latin America. Chavez has got those thin-lipped, right wing Republicans by the short hairs, and I for one am loving it.
I will not be surprised, however, to see the CIA mount some serious armed effort to kill the man as they did Allende. Call out that ratty little slimebag Kissinger. He's the man for the job.

I believe Chavez is a man of the people and was elected by the people as they, as he, are sick of the USA exploitation of Latin America and interference in their internal politics.
This movement will grow and will result in the eventual necessity for the USA to respect other nations as the USA empire begins to decline and they accept there is no such thing as a superpower that bullies the worlds small countries.
My answer is "yes we love him"

Neither.
He should not be deified as many on the left tend to, but we should also acknowledge that to be a socialist and to oppose American policy are not sufficient causes to hate the man.

Hate him because he does not have any value. I wonder why was he elected. He is one of the worthless leaders like Erap Estrada of the Philippines, Kim of North Korea, that Iranian President and many others.

He says the truth about many things and I agree with him when he says Bush is the Devil, although he never speaks against US people, other than that he is a dictator and has his people in poverty, instead he finances socialist countries with Venezuela's oil incomes.
In resume you should feel nothing for him.

I found his comments about the President delivered to the UN to be rather cowardly...easy enough to mock someone behind their back. It would have been more interesting if he dared to make those comments in the presence of the President.
