my humble advice for people who enter the "yahoo answers" -- that they simply do a simple search if this type of questions have already been answered before. it would help us turn the pages on the subject and be more constructive. this having been said --there is no question in anyone's mind (except those who do not read historical accounts of events) that definitely Iraq is better now than it was under Saddam. No question about that. End of this argument. The why is very easy -- Saddam eliminated all (not some) all opposition and he eliminated "human beings" -- thus he abused his power as a leader and as a President. Too long a case -- go search on the subject matter -- the records are plenty to reproduce her. What matters from now on --is how Iraq will do in the near and distant future to catch up -- to the beatings of a civilized, free, democratic society. Case closed, subject still open -- but from a different angle.

absolutely not! I know a lot of people who originate from there and they still have family there and they are devastated at the results of what Iraq has come to. Yes when Saddam was there he was a very tough president but people don't know is that there are many different cultures/languages/religions there, there is the Arabs, Kurds, Chaldean's, and the Assyrians. They are different religions different languages and even total different cultures they all want there people to become the leaders there. Even the Muslims there have differences in them and the only person who can put them in there place was Saddam, yes he was tough but that what was what he thought he had to do to control the country and he did things a wrong way but now its a lot worse and doesn't look like its ever going to get better, Saddam was the one who can put them all in there places. All the war did was make it so much worse for those people.

Yes. There was no hope under Saddam, and plenty of violence, and no freedom.

If the US can summon the nerve to finish the fight, we'll defeat the enemy and Iraq will be free and secure. No chance of freedom and security while under Saddam.

Dictatorships are what cause terrorism. Toppling dictators is how you beat international terrorism. Do you have a better plan for ending terrorism?

Ignoring dictators is how you allow thousands and thousands and thousands of people to suffer every day, day in and day out, suffering in ways the comfortable fat-arses in the west cannot imagine.

By the way, like 85 percent of the land in Iraq and 85 percent of the people in Iraq are peaceful and prosperous. Funny how you don't hear about it on "the news."

You gotta seek multiple news sources, it's the only way to find the truth.

Iraq is much worse now than it was under Saddam. Iraq is comprised of groups of people who don't like each other and only a man like Saddam could control them. Under his rule, Sunnis, Sh'ia, Christians and Kurds lived peacefully, often in the same neighborhoods.

Under Saddam's secular government, Iraq was a progressive nation where women wore Western attire and did not have to veil, where the road signs were printed in both Arabic and English, where the money was printed in Arabic on one side and English on the other, where alcohol was allowed. Does this sound like the actions of a man who hated America?

Furthermore, Saddam built schools, hospitals, housing projects and educated children, including girls--unusual in a Middle Eastern country.

Furthermore, the Renaissance (Ba'ath) Party was founded by a Christian, Saddam had Christians in his government and he protected Christians. Now, Christians are being attacked and are fleeing Iraq in droves. There was a report about the plight of Christians in Iraq on this evening's news.

Anyone who thinks Iraq is better now than under Saddam has been brainwashed by the Bush Administration's lies.

Maybe ... but not by much. There is still needless killings that have taken place on innocent people by the U.S. military and an unsettled government. When you consider the fact that the United States should have never invaded Iraq to begin with and at least with Saddam still in control, they did not have to fear their border enemy, Iran like they will have to be concerned with now. But give the United States time, I am sure we will get Iraq into a war with Iran with our presence there. And if we leave now while things are in disarray, then for sure Iran will invade them nonetheless. In short, Iraq is screwed. It just goes to show Iraqi people that if you want something done then you best just do it yourself. You allow the United States to help you and you might as well just sign a deal with the devil.

Of course not! And it's going to get worse! Especially after Saddam's murder. It's funny how those idiotic cowboys sponsored Saddam and Osama, giving them millions of dollars in aid. Saddam's chemical weapons were supplied by the US and used against Iran and the Kurds with US approval. But as soon as the former allies (read: puppets) start acting on their own, the cowboys get upset and turn things around.. In the end, the former friends become "evil", "bad", "not democratic", which are simple labels used to justify aggression. And it's back to cowardly bomb-dropping again....

The civil war was a long time coming in Iraq. I think that the US may have added fuel to the fire, but those religions were doomed to collide. I think that they are very passionate people in Iraq with very strong beliefs. I just hate that Americans have to die for what "they" are fighting for!

That's a question for the Iraqis, wouldn't you agree? I'll see if there's been a poll. Yes, here it is:

BAGHDAD, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- About 90 percent of Iraqis feel the situation in the country was better before the U.S.-led invasion than it is today, according to a new ICRSS poll.

Maybe not for some, But now it will be a fair civil war, because like it or not they have always been in one, the ones that saddam was terrorizing can now speak up.
