I'm not sure about banks but I can contradict the person who said the stock market can't close for >3 days in a row. Today, national day of mourning for the late President Ford, was the 4th day in a row the NYSE has been closed.

I know for certain that the stock market can't be closed for more than 3 days in a row but I think same principle applies to banks as well. keeps the investors from worrying that the system is going under.

Which is why you'll see both the bank and stock market open the day after Thanksgiving.
