He's past his best! He can't cut it with the worlds best anymore, but he is still performing for SA and hopefully for Yorkshire in the English summer.
Sad to see a bloke with a higher test batting score than some of the most highly rated batters in the world (201 n.o) end his international career so early!
I'm a South Aussie so I am asking all you Englishmen why the English batters couldn't go after Brett Lee or Glenn Mcgrath, and leave Dizzy alone!!!!
As there are no current SA players in the Australian squad I am hoping some of the younger players come up:
Mark Cosgrove - One of the sweetest timers of the ball, just has a bit of a weight issue. Maybe could get into the test team, and become a miny Boof Lehmann.
Dan Cullen - Best off spinner in the country and is suited to the one day form of the game as can bowl 10 tight overs.
Shaun Tait - Exciting prospect, and has made his debut for Australia in test matches (knocking over Freddy Flintoffs stumps I believe??). If he can remain injury free and perhaps bowl a bit tigher (AKA Brett Lee) could be a very Jeff Thompson like player.
Cullen Bailey - Another exciting spinning prospect.
Congratulations to Jason Gillespie on a fantastic career!

He underperformed for too long in the test side, that his time was up. Although I must say, he was the scapegoat for the 2005 ashes loss. The batsman were the ones who lost the ashes. It is Unlikely Jason Gillespie will ever play test cricket again with the likes of Hilfenhus (spell), Tait, Johnson, Bracken, Griffith etc in front of him.

he was dropped after the ashes 2005, where england SMASHED him into the next galaxy, after realising he had lost a bit of pace. in the first 3 tests he took just 3 wickets at an average of 100 runs per wicket. he will not return, that was the biggest series in a long time, and he failed, and was a major reason australia lost.

After a horrific ashes series in 2005 he has underperformed. I still think that he should come into the side because he is also very effective with the bat. His highest score is even higher than Gilchrist's highest score

I think it is becuz... he is now 32 yrs old... and is thought tooo old to play... which i think is stupid.... cuz dizzy can still play well.... and should be in the team....... and i cant see symonds performing well... so trhey should have had dizzy in the team.........or they can also have him after.... shane warne retires...... of mcgrath and langer retire from test cricket!!!!!!
I think dizzy can still play very well............. they should give him a chance!!!!!! I think the aussies still haven't realised wat they r missing... :-))))
