The question is just about as absurd as a pet peeve I have with my carpenter friend, when he exclaims to me,
“At any rate….”
And leaves everything suspended, not knowing, what is before or after, If I said to him,
“Irregardless of what you say, I’m Puzzled”
or if I said,
"Regardless of what you say, I’m puzzled”
Which phrase sounds right to you?
Apparently through a little research 'irregardless' and 'regardless' mean the same thing but 'irregardless' is generally not accepted, it has only been in only SOME dictionaries and not for very long, since the beginning of the 20th century. Irregardless is termed as a non-word, an absurd word, a double forked word, a sloppy word, a word that should go into the cancer ward. So what is irregardless? a baloney sandwich with too much rancid mustard.

Hoping soon the dictionaries will out-date the word ‘irregardless' Who decided to put it some dictionaries? a comedian

Regardless, I say regardless.

I was a little embarrassed to say it, but I do use irregardless. Not that the site below proves it's ok but....

The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose.
