I have faced the same problems with couple laptops. In both the cases, the venting fan died or got jammed.
I resolved the issue by getting the fans fixed.
But, while I was waiting for new fan to arrive, I put the CPU on the lowest speed via the BIOS and that almost ensured that the CPU would not overheat.

I've worked on PCs before and I had a Toshiba that was doing this. I ended up flashing the BIOS. That fixed the problem. Do some research to see if this is a known problem. Email the company. Good luck...sorry you are having to mess with a brand new computer. That's just not fair.

Check the power settings in the control panel. It may be set to turn off. I would also suggest turning off hibernation support if you don't need it.
It is possible too that it is overheating, it would automatically turn off to prevent damage to the processor, if this is the case you may be able to check the processor temp in the bios screen when you boot up.
If ot is overheating then you should send it back

Well if your an IT technician i would hope that you would have a much better idea on the subject then the general public. Anyway send it back. It would cost money to fix and you could just get another one for free.

these might help you trouble shoot your prob. If though you been hacked with a few packets from some bad gamer who wants to show you what he can do, then my friend you have to format
the hard drive. I think it may be your power supply or an old hack progie someone cut and pasted off the Internet and dropped the packets to your system, Prob some1 you know.

Yes, overheating could be an issue.
Another idea is that maybe there is a short in the power supply/battery circuits somewhere?

I'm pretty sure the technician is right, and it's the overheating.
I recently bought a brand new macbook, and it was doing the exact same thing, I sent it in, and sure enough it was overheating.
Hope that helped!

The heat coming out the side is a good indication that the fan is working.
There may be a BIOS setting for the fan that you may want to check. On some laptops, there's a setting in the BIOS for "quiet mode" or "normal mode".......if you have this setting, change it to "normal mode" and see if that helps.
