Her problem is more psychological, but I think it is that she is not loved

The Dolly apparently had Tourette's Syndrome... no, I'm not kidding. She would shout obsenities randomly. They had to film early in the mornings when her meds were at their peak and they did a lot of editing. You can see why Santa would not want to send Dolly to any little girl.

Today, we understand about mental illness. We would not consider Dolly a 'Misfit'. We would encourage her to attend therapy and ignore her occasional outbursts as she worked to balance her meds.

Check out this link. Arthur Rankin (of Rankin-Bass who created the show) said that the Doll's problem was 'mental'.

I looked into several leads, but this is the one that sums it up the best, even providing the lyrics of the song and an explanation.

Hope that helps!

Jen (just a Bi-Polar dolly!)

26. Prostitutes always look like Julia Roberts or Jamie Lee Curtis. They have expensive clothes and nice apartments but no pimps. They are friendly with the shopkeepers in their neighbourhood who don`t mind at all what the girl does for a living.

"Misfit Doll (voiced by Corinne Conley) is an unnamed, but seemingly normal girl rag doll. Her presence on the island is never explained, although it has been said that her problem is more "psychological" than physical."

From what this website says the doll really doesn't have any obvious reason for being on the island

My mom looked on line and it turns out nothing is wrong with
the doll! The creator said he didnt expect people to really be that
curious about it so thats why it was never explained.

I totally kid you not here. According to numerous sources (including Arthur Rankin of Rankin/Bass Productions, the makers of "Rudolph") the doll had "psychological problems".

But odds are she was just something of a production oversight.

Instead of wetting, she projectile vomits hydrochloric acid. This is demonstrated in the original cut of the movie, which has since been lost in the vaults of Hollywood.
