I love the warm people, weather (except for the dog days of mid-summer,) diversity in geography and landscape, small town charms, liveliness of the big cities, multiculturalism, live music in Austin, missions in San Antonio, cosmopolitan feel of Dallas-Ft. Worth (FTW isn't quite so pretentious, thankfully,) art, food, mellow attitude and vibe, can I go on?

As friendly as other Southern states such as Mississippi, South Carolina, and Georgia are, the friendliest people I've ever met are in Texas!

It's a great state, and I hope to move there from Kentucky soon enough!

I spent nine agonizing months in Texas at Fort Hood. The county I lived in was dry. There were cockroaches everywhere. There were crickets in drifts along the outside walls at the supermarkets. Dusty. Humid.

I can't tell you about Texas in general, but Fort Hood was the ugliest place I have ever lived.

This is toooooo funny--and ironic. My husband and I are moving to the KY/IN area this year, and are looking forward to the change for the very same reasons! Although, I am not entirely looking forward to missing out on warm holidays.....I'm a transplant, so I enjoy times without snow!

TX has had its high points--some of the unique qualities like the certainty no other place on earth exists that is better is quite bothersome at times. Folks are friendly, small towns are small, which has charm and difficulities all at the same time. My hubby is lamenting the lack of TX BBQ where we are going, but he can also prepare it, so all will be well. ;-)) I've enjoyed being so close to the border and enjoying Mexico...just a bit of it. If you speak Spanish, than you have increased the number of wonderful folks you can consider friends!

It sounds as if both of the changes to take place life-wise are the correct ones, for all of us.....blessings on your new life in TX, and if you have any advice, wisdom on KY/IN life, bring it on!!!

I have lived in Texas all my life and I have to say I like it. I would not call it the greatest state in the union only because I have never lived in another state before. We do have a MAJOR problem with illeagal aliens though. Far from the REALLY hot summers and that. Texas is alright.

I love it! I'm in west Texas and I like the laid back, friendly attitude. It's not insane expensive to live here, and you've got the beach, the mountains, the piney woods, and the desert all in one state.
