My daughter is 2.5 months old and has been smiling for about a month, big full faced smiles. Her eyes light up and everything. She also started laughing in the past week. Nothing is more cute than a baby smiling and cooing at you.

It varies from baby to baby. They usually begin to smile at about 3 months. Some babies my take longer. Anything before 3 months may just be gas. Babies tend to grin when they pass gas. Watch for your baby to respond to your talking. When your baby focuses on your face when he/she is being talked to, then smiles, it is probably a gunuine smile. If your babys just smile out of the blue for no reason, it's most likely gas.

They say baby doesn't smile until 3 months... before that it is just gas. I personally don't agree with that. My baby smiled when he was about 6 weeks and I really don't think it was gas.

My first child, a girl, not only smiled, but grinned from the age of one and a half months.
