Steve Vai and Satch do it. It's called gargling in my GuitarTechniques magazine. They say to "strike the note and flick the trem bar". I can't get that cool sound to appear by doing that. Also a bonus question: How does Steve Stevens make that UFO laser-photon sound to come out of his guitar. I NEED THESE TRICKS!

I believe that the trick is all in their equipment. I think with all the artists you mentioned, an Echoplex is all in their arsenal of fx I believe. Toggling it on for a second at a high volume with create repeatable strange noises. Try a volume pedal combined with a Digitech Digital delay and a distortion pedal. A Boss ME 33 might be a cheap way around it, fire it up with the Ring Modulator, Delay, Distortion and Volume pedal. I do like the Digitech because of the cool REVERSE reverb delay that's on there.....hennnnndrixxxxx. The main thing is to play around with it, but the delay time sounds short and the repeat is almost infinite for your settings.

It's all the equipment man.

You can have a Marshall and a Les Paul and you won't sound like Jimmy Page without the bow....lol...and a theramin, and helix talk box (Frampton, Joe Walsh, and hahahahah Bon Jovi), big muff pi distortion (I like small pi myself)....crybaby wah (EVERYONE)....echoplex....b-bender (Page and any Nashville star)....Rotovibe (Hendrix, Page and Beck).

Why the heck did all these people answer that don't even play guitar???....LOSERS!!!!! Tell them to go play Guitar Hero II instead of pretending they know something...oh yeah GHII isn't REAL guitar either.....sheesh.

Good Luck,
Brian

You should change strings after about 10-12 HOURS of play time. I know guys that change out before every gig. 2-3 wraps around the tuning post and trim off the excess. If you don't have one, buy an electronic tuner. There are 3 string manufactures, they contract produce ALL the strings sold, so brands make little difference, nickel wound sound different than brass wound. Gauge makes a difference too. I like a .010" e string personally. All that said... The instrument makes the sound, so those beautiful guitars you are referring to are probably higher end instruments. If you want to upgrade to a superior guitar, take a look at, and try playing an Alverez D210. Massive volume, great intonation, and very affordable. I got mine for like $300 from Musicians Friend online.

i have no clue what your getting at..but alot of songs these days are muffled so if you put the side of your hand on the bridge (on top of the strings while strumming) it makes a really cool sound..
