How much money do you need?

I am moving to India in next 6 months. Can anybody tell me, how much money in rupees does a couple to live there. ( average)

Well it all depends on where in India you intend on moving... The Metros [Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, etc.] have all becomes ridiculously expensive with the influx of foreign investment.

The cost of living can be as diverse as the country it self. To give you a rough idea, living in Mumbai could cost you as little as Rs20,000/- per month or could cost you ten times that amount based on the area you intend on living in.

As you would probably know, rents have shot up all over India along with Real Estate prices. This would be your primary cost if living in a Metro. A 1000 sq. ft. apartment in a posh suburb in Mumbai would cost you over Rs. 50,000/- p.m. but if you are willing to move further away from town, you may get a two bedroom apartment for 10-15K p.m.

Living expenses should not exceed Rs.20,000/- p.m. if it is just the two of you. And that should cover your bills, food, clothing and a movie at the cinema twice a month and an expensive dinner as well... it all really depends on how good you are at squeezing value out of your money...
