I went for a bike ride, flipped over the handlebars and carried on as though nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

I didn't hear that he opposed the war. So that means GWB is that much further ahead in the race for the dumbest president ever.

I shed a couple of unintended tears, and asked God to bless his family in their time of grief. You see, I am old enough to actually remember the Ford Administration. He was truly the last of the Great Presidents.

I spent some time trying to think about how to react:
I did not think Ford accomplished much as a president, and feel that Nixon should have been tried and possibly jailed for his crimes and that Ford did not give us "a chance to heal" as the newspapers have spun it; he gave Nixon a free ride out of town!

Secondly, I was sorry to hear that he disaproved of the Iraq war and that he decided to NOT publish that fact until after his death. There's a saying, "all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing". It's 2 years and 2000 deaths (of US solders alone) later, and maybe, just maybe, if Ford had spoken out, a scale might have been tipped earlier. Maybe not.

On the other hand, the Bushs make Ford seem like a SAINT, so in that respect, I'm sorry that we lost one of the more moderate Republicans.

I watched the State funeral. President Bush Sr is a trip. He did a Dana Carvey impersonation. He lightened the mood and made everyone smile as President Ford would have enjoyed.

he pardoned Nixon ; another cog in the wheel of getting away with anything if you are in politics ; let Mr. John Q Public do even a small sample and you would be hung out to dry ; another waste of taxpayer dollars which could be used to help with fuel, electricity; funding non gas cars; free medication for seniors; better roads, better schools; help for people who lost their homes and couldn't afford flood insurance b/c it was outrageously priced; benefits for Americans so we don't have to work until 92 ; funding for second languages for all students starting in kindergarten so we aren't the only country that really just knows English ; better help for the widows/widowers children of our fallen soldiers; HOW ABOUT MONEY TO PAY FOR BETTER EQUIPMENT FOR OUR SOLDIERS - the list goes on and on and on - yeah just what we needed another videotaped waste of our resources; throw more caution to the wind - great question!!
