I never liked sleeping on my back before now that I am pregnant I love it but I know it is not good for the baby, it cuts off blood and oxygen to the baby. Invest in a pregnancy pillow or use a regular pillow and put it inbetween your legs and sleep on your left side, I found this really comfortable and it makes me not switch over to my back while I am sleeping.

You don't stay in the same position all night so its ok. My doc always said to sleep however i was comfortable. For me personally i am not comfortable sleeping flat on my back but i use either a body pillow or, lately, a triangle pillow propped in the small of my back and find that it helps me immensley!

But even though i may fall asleep on my back but i will wake several times a night on my left side or right side etc.

The only thing that i can't do is lie on my stomach, sometimes i do so inadvertently - not only is it uncomfortable for me but also my baby who will squirm and kick until i roll back over! lol.

I've had the same problem - sleeping on my side causes a lot of pain in my hip and knee, but sleeping on my back cuts off the circulation to my legs. I've started sleeping with two pillows stacked under my head and neck, that seems to help no matter what position I sleep in.

The problem with lying on your back is that the baby is resting on the blood vessels that run from your heart to your legs, making the return flow to your heart and upper body short. It can result in dizzyness and passing out, as well as vericose veins in your legs. Try using a body pillow, or several pillows propped along your body to help alleviate back pain. What you are trying to do by using pillows is align your back so that it is straight. You will need pillows between your legs especially, that will help align your lower back.

If sleeping on your side is truly interferring with your rest then you should lie however is most conductive to your resting. Yes it best to sleep on you sides, preferably your left side, but if you are not resting then it will not do you any good to sleep on your side. As you continue to grow though you should be open to constantly repostioning yourself as sleeping on your back may not continue to be comfortable for you. Wish you all the best.

you will not be comfortable sleeping on your back anyway, especially when your baby grows. It's more comfortable sleeping on the sides. That way the weight from your belly is rested.

"they " say all sorts of things about sleeping, me i sleep how i'm comfortable. i'm 5 1/2 months pregnant and still sleep on my stomache. sleeping on your back can cut off some veins and stuff when you get so far along but i figure if it's not bothering me or causing me pain, i'm gonna sleep how i want to.

I know exactly how you feel! They say that because they dont want all the excess weight on your back. I found that laying on my back, but at an elevated position helped. This way you are still able to lay on your back, but not putting as much weight on it. Try using pillows to make yourself as comfortable as possible. Trust me, you have many sleepless night ahead of you, but it will be well worth it.

What you could do is lay on your back with a pillow under your Right side so that you are leaning towards your left.
