The need for clothes was created by the "clothing industry"...just like Hallmark created all these occasions for greeting cards...oh well sounded good to me! Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get dressed. ;)

As we all know clothes have many practical purposes. They provide warmth and protection from skin abrasions, sunburn etc. Therefore, their use became practically universal. Throughout history, people who do not do things in the same way as others have been reviled by their peers.

This situation as it applies to nudity has been exacerbated by religion IMHO. Religion has propagated the concept of sexuality being immoral (something which I utterly reject). Religion has always had a very large effect on the laws and social mores of countries and communities. They are large rganised groups who tell you that you must act like them or face an eternity of torment

Therefore, it becomes immoral to reveal one's genitalia to strangers. For example, in most western countries, it is only very slightly frowned on for a man to walk around town with no shirt on during the summer. He won't be allowed into high class restaurants but no one pays to much attention. If he is naked from the waist down, then that is a criminal offense.

Some people have ugly bodies, and most of the time the ugliness has to do with overeating and under-exercising. Nobody wants to be put in the shadow of anybody else; it wouldn't be "democratic." If everyone were naked, you could more easily tell that we're not all "equals." Under the politics of our time, that Must Not Be!

So, instead of making the fat people eat less and work more, the push is all about making everybody - especially those with gloriously beautiful bodies - cover themselves up with clothes.

To keep out all the elements including the heat and the cold. Wearing clothes keeps us from getting sunburned. If i was the only person in the world i would more then likely wear clothes anyway. It could be also for shame not of the body but for exposing ones self in a manner that is not private.

Blame it all on Eve.

Clearly, it's very cultural. I'm sure you've seen pictures in National Geographic of swarthy, 3rd-world people, who are practically naked. They usually wear a loin-cloth, just to protect their genitals, especially the dudes. I think there are some tribes, where people go totally naked, maybe the Rasta.

I'm not nearly fit enough to feel comfortable letting EVERYBODY see me naked. Plus, I don't like exposing my limp penis.

Salaam.

I look better with my clothes on, or in very dim light. Or both. Some people I've seen topless at the beach look like they need their skin ironed. That's what you get for walking around without covering up properly in warm climates.

Adam and Eve were naked and felt no shame, when they ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they saw that they were naked and clothed themselves. We as humans have nothing to be ashamed of in regards to our bodies. Nakedness with your spouse is a good thing, but our bodies are sacred, and the beauty of our nakedness is hidden with clothing - only to be revealed to our spouses.

Because we like being decent. bears have hair, birds have feathers, beetles have armours and we have clothes. if we were hairy this question would have had some meaning.
