Need some opinions. . .say someone calls you their best friend, then finds out that one of their "associate" friends (let's call him meanie) from high school did mean and nasty things to you in a visible (prove-able) manner, and refuses to apologize even though he knows he's guilty. Should it be expected that the best friend would defend your honor by calling out the meanie that messed you over, or is it acceptable for him to chit chat and chum around with the meanie as if nothing happened? Should this same best friend be expected to warn other close friends of this meanies behavior so they aren't at risk to be duped as well?

when somebody is givin the title of "best" friend, you expect more of them. so of course, if they hear a rumor or something they should confront the source. think about it. youd defend your friend if you heard something fake about them. why shouldnt they do the same for you? and later on during the week... you find out this person... this "meanie" said these things and your best friend knew and acted like nothing happened. drama will be created between you and the best friend, thus causing a rift in the friendship. so yeah, to prevent a lot of unneeded drama, the "best" friend should defend you, and not let youre name be slung through the mud. unless of course the rumor is true... then its all fair game.

Perhaps Best Friend is also friends with Meanie, and is trying to see it from both sides, or maybe Meanie claimed he didn't do it and Best Friend doesn't want to believe he's a liar. Try asking Best Friend WHY he is nice to Meanie, when you have proven that he does mean things? Perhaps there is something you don't know about Meanie.
Regardless, Best Friend is NOT required to warn other people about Meanie's bad behavior - that is YOUR job. You have direct experience with what happened, and you don't want it to happen to other people, so you should be the one to warn them.
Basically, you can decide who your friends are, but you can't tell them who THEIR friends should be.

You make a lot of sense and yes, your best friend probably should have defended you but...realistically, this is high school garbage. She doesn't want to make enemies and wants to be cool. Unfortunately, you may have to let this one go.

If it happens again then yes, and if they don't they are either not your friend or scared of the individual, However, it is right to point out the wrong after all that is what Jesus would do.
