LOL, historically! ! IF you get a dollar an hour raise because of this minimum wage increase consider yourself very lucky! Your union will have to negociate for you.
You liberals and democrats are so stupid! See, the smartest thing you could have done is not allowed your party's to force this minimum wage increase.
The only one who will benefit from this raise is the government. You know the liberals and democrats you want in office so bad need to increase their revenue now that they are in charge.
You are going to miss those tax cuts President Bush has protected for you.
Power to the socialist!! LOL

Well there is good new and bad news, the god news if for newbies getting paid below the new min. wage. They all get a bump. The bad news is that since that bump is mandated and probably not budgeted by your employer, the money that it takes to bump those newbies up to the new min. wage will probably come out of the available funds for merit increases or in other words the raise you may have been expecting this year. There is no requirement to give those making above the min. wage a increse and since no additional funds are made availible wheb the law was changed, the monies for the adjustment to the newbies wages have to come out of the exsisting budget.
It is what we call wage compression in HR terms. It hurts everyone but the employees who are mandated to get the raise. In reality they will get hurt in the long run to but that is another question.
It's a good thought though and certainly a good discussion point when you go in for your merit review. You can use their term against them and ask them how they will address the "wage compression" you are experiencing as a result of the min. wage increase. You do a god job, but it is as if you are almost starting over again. If you do it tactfully and are doing a good job, you may get a few extra cents per hour of the available funds.
Unfortunately, for everyone but the newbies, employers, customers, employees, everyone gets hurt when government steps in to fix things. That is why the government is supposed to stay out of the free market system.
Best of luck, Sorry.

The increase in the minimum wage is only mandated by law for those who are making minimum wage. Since $9.00 an hour is already above minimum wage, your employer is under no obligation of any kind to increase your wage. You will probably not get any increase.
Sorry :(

If you're already making $9/hr, the minimum wage thing won't affect you. The only ones who'll get more will be the ones who were already at minimum wage, and it will go to the new minimum wage. You would not benefit at all unless minimum wage got higher than you're already making. In any case, it is now 75 cents higher than it was....

just because minimum wage is going up, doesn't mean that your wage will increase. It means that the base pay for any job will go up. Your wage may stay the same ( as long as it is higher than minimum).

everyone making minimum wage gets a raise. the rest of us get screwed. how do you think businesses are going to pay for that increase? by jacking up prices on the goods and services we purchase from them. so in the long run everyone gets bent over.

minimum wage has nothing to do with what you are making now, just because minimum wage goes up doesn't mean you will get a raise

All you may see is a COLA (cost of living allowance) raise. Other than that, minimum wage increases scare employers.

Be careful, they might find a 'reason' to lay you off so they can hire those illegals for min. wage. After all, it's still lower than what you're making. Companies are all looking for cheap labor so they can live better, they couldn't care less about the American workers.

That would not change your present pay .
A cost of living raise would effect your pay .
