I am thinking about getting aim 6.0 but I do not know if it is worth it. I tried Aim express but it didn't work.

It cost's nothing to install and use. All you need is a internet connection. My favorite version of AIM is AIM 4.8

Get the free aim, it works great for me. If it doesn't work right now, try doing it later.
