organism, being
a living thing that has (or can develop) the ability to act or function independently
or
organism
a system considered analogous in structure or function to a living body; "the social organism"
These Escherichia coli cells provide an example of a MicroorganismIn biology and ecology, an organism (in Greek organon = instrument) is a living complex adaptive system of organs that influence each other in such a way that they function in some way as a stable whole.
The origin of life on Earth and the relationships between its major lineages are controversial. Two main grades may be distinguished, the prokaryotes and eukaryotes. The prokaryotes are generally considered to represent two separate domains, called the Bacteria and Archaea, which are not closer to one another than to the eukaryotes. The gap between prokaryotes and eukaryotes is widely considered a major missing link in evolutionary history. Two eukaryotic organelles, namely mitochondria and chloroplasts, are generally considered to be derived from endosymbiotic bacteria. Fungi, animals and plants are examples of species that are eukaryote.

An organism, scientifacally is the 5th level of classifaction of life. THe order goes from Cell(bone cell) to tissue(bone tissue) to organ(bone) to organ system(skeleton/skeletal system) to organism. Each level is made up of many of the level before it put together. For example many cells put together is a tissue. But basically its a living thing.

An organism is a mass of organic matter that has the ability to reproduce either sexually or asexually, though it does not require any of the components for sentience, (self-awareness, preservation, etc.).
For example, we are organisms, very complex ones, but the so are germs and viruses.
