Chuck "The Ice Man" Liddel defeated Tito Ortiz in three rounds by TKO. He dominated early on in the match, and swayed a little bit when Ortix was able to connect with a powerful suplex bringing him down to the mat. But Liddell refocused and in a flurry of dynamic power, sent Ortiz down with his visciousness. Quite a victory, and I'll say the one to prove who the better athlete is.

The combat replaced into Sat evening. (final evening replaced into satisfaction's Shockwave 2006.) Liddell gained with a TKO in the third around (approximately 3:fifty 9). Arvloski, Jardine, Alves, MacDonald, and Bisbing have been all helpful in UFC sixty six.

Having climbed back up the ranks after losing his title in 2003, former light heavyweight champion Tito “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” Ortiz was, undoubtedly in as good of shape as he could ever hope to be in his long-awaited rematch with Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell last night before a sold-out crowd at the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas.

It still wasn’t good enough.

After reeling off three impressive victories since his return at UFC 59, Ortiz was confident and focused enough to give the 37-year-old, dominant champion a better showing than their first encounter that left him beaten on the canvas in the second round . . . .

This time, he was left beaten on the canvas in the third.

Ortiz opted not to wait long for a takedown attempt and, after a small exchange of strikes and leg kicks in the opening minute, Ortiz shot for a takedown from the outside, missing badly. With his hand up and Liddell’s, as usual, at his waist, a motivated Ortiz landed his biggest punch of the round in the form of an overhand right just before the three minute mark.

Liddell waited to counter, knowing Ortiz would have to come forward if he wanted to close the distance for a takedown. Using his left jab to set up his straight right hand bomb, Liddell opened up a cut over Ortiz’ left eyebrow with a grazing right hand. With the opportunity to end the fight with the cut, Liddell went in to finish off his adversary, successfully landing a monster left hand that dropped Ortiz, first to the fence, and, then, to the ground. Ortiz cradled up and covered his head as Liddell went to town on his head in an effort to have the fight stopped. Amazingly, Ortiz survived the nearly fight-ending barrage by Liddell, losing the round in the closing minute after an impressive starting effort.

In the second, Liddell blocked a head kick from Tito who was still bleeding from his cut. Liddell waited to counter and did not commit to any significant exchange while Ortiz kept busy looking and taking every opportunity. Although missing several leg kicks, the effort and consistency was enough to win the close round for Ortiz.

After Liddell missed a haymaker, Ortiz shot and missed another takedown attempt, ending up on his back. Liddell allowed Ortiz to, once again, stand as he knew that his bread and butter lay on his feet. With less than a minute to go, Ortiz was finally successful in a takedown attempt, taking him down and then momentarily mounting Liddell’s back, bring the contest back to even. Liddell scrambled and got back to his feet, landing a big left elbow that allowed him to get away from Ortiz’ grip, and made a closer contest than at any point in the first round.

Ortiz took the second round on two of the three judges’ scorecards.

With three more scheduled rounds in the championship contest, Ortiz supporters again turned to the “TITO! TITO!” chants, bringing confidence to the California native as he successfully traded with the patient Liddell in the opening minutes of the third stanza. As the two fighters continued to trade the crowd grew more intense and Liddell grew more confident, now working the body of the still bleeding Ortiz. Another failed takedown attempt found Ortiz on his back, up-kicking before being allowed by Liddell to, again, stand. Still in the contest after a disastrous first round, Ortiz seemed to be in good position to make a run to win the contest, until Liddell’s feared power once again found a home with a big left hook-right hand-right uppercut combination that proved to be the beginning of the end as Ortiz again crumbled along the fence and to the canvas.

Liddell smothered his opponent with strikes that were mostly blocked by Ortiz’ elbows and shoulders, but the onslaught proved enough to have referee Mario Yamasaki stop the contest as Ortiz was still defending himself but unable to change his position.

Bruce Buffer routinely announced Liddell (20-3) the winner and still UFC light heavyweight champion via third round TKO. The time was 3:59.

“I knew I had the tools to beat Tito,” said Liddell at the post-fight press conference.

“I mean he’s a tough guy, but I never doubted my abilities. I knew what I was going to do and I just gave it time and did what I planned to do.”

The much matured Ortiz (15-5) thanked his fans, as well as the troops in Iraq, and promised to return and stick around for many years to come.

“Chuck is an awesome fighter,” he said. “He’s the best in the world, pound for pound, and he beat the best Tito Ortiz there’s been.

“But I’m still young. I’m only 31 and I know he just beat me tonight. I did everything I could do and it wasn’t enough right now. Chuck is the man . . . .”

Ortiz was taken to Valley Hospital for a CAT scan and X-rays on a possibly-broken left foot.
