Mine came down today, but the tree left so many pine needles behind I'm sure i'll be reminded of it for some time.

Generally, the last day the tree should be up is Jan. 06th which is the Epiphany which is the last day of Xmas. However, there's no right or wrong as now in Ottawa people have taken to keeping their Xmas lights up until (gasp) the end of Feb. to keep everything bright and festive. This year, however, it seems that everyone is taking their tree down early this year. What a pity.

I usually take down the interior decorations sometime after the 6th of January. I've gone so far as to leave them up until mid-January a few times since I didn't have the time to take them down until then.

The exterior decorations are a different matter. Large decorations are taken down as soon as possible, strands of lights are usually kept out until the snow melts away since half of them are usually buried beneath the snow. Although this year there should be no problem in taking them down if it continues being so mild.

Most everyone I know takes down the tree latest by New Years. I take down holiday decor bit by bit between December 26th and Jan. 1st but leave up "winter" decorations all winter.

I keep mines until after the three kings day, January 6th , or seven when I start taking all down ,bit by bit. Christmas is the celebration of Jesus of Nazareth birth, then who better to bring the gifts than the magi, or three kings as they are known in Hispanic countries, after all they are the first gift givers and to baby Jesus himself. Christmas is magical, keep it as long as you like.

I do mine bit by bit. This year I found lovely new ones to add to the old, and put them up on the tree to see what they would look like.
So however one wants to do it, that seems like the most appropriate way.

I prefer to take them down down before the end of December, Christmas is over, why continue to clutter the house?
That's just my opinion though, you should take them down whenever you feel like it.
