The largest study of the health effects to date was done by Kaiser Permanente. They surveyed the health records of 65,000 patients over a number of years. They found no significant differences in the health records of pot smokers versus non-pot smokers.

The Chief Adminstrative Law Judge of the Drug Enforcement Administration studied the health effects for two years and accumulated fifteen volumes of research in the process. He concluded that "Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest
therapeutically active substances known to man." You can find the full text of his ruling at http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/YOUNG/index.html

Over the last 100 years there have been numerous government commissions that have studied marijuana. They all concluded that, while smoking anything might have some harms, there was no evidence that marijuana was a serious threat to health or society. You can find those studies at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/studies.htm The collection includes the largest studies ever done by the governments of the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia, just to mention a few.

Just in case you were asking, the health effects were never a reason for the marijuana laws. Marijuana was originally outlawed for two reasons. The first was because "All Mexicans are crazy and marijuana is what makes them crazy." The second was the fear that heroin addiction would lead to the use of marijuana -- exactly the opposite of the modern gateway myth.

In short, the marijuana laws never had anything to do with health. They were the product of absolute lunacy. For example, the US Official Expert on marijuana testified in court, under oath, that marijuana could turn you into a bat.

You also ought to know that the US Government has had a dedicated and openly admitted campaign to lie about marijuana since at least 1937. After the law was passed, Harry Anslinger - then head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics -- walked out on a bridge over the Potomac River and saw before him a field of cannabis that stretched as far as the eye could see. He knew that the law was totally unenforceable with his meager million-dollar budget, so he figured that the only way to make any progress would be a campaign stupendous lies -- Reefer Madness.

You can find a number of histories of the drug laws, as well as hundreds of original historical documents at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/History/history.htm

There has never been a death on record due to marijuana, and you can't say that about much. You can even die from drinking too much water. Everything has some harm in large doses.

Marijuana:
Prevents Cancer (UCLA study, Study is Spain, Study in Italy, all released 2005-2006)

Gets rid of stress (the main reason for illness due to weakened immune system)

Enlarges bronchial tubes for easier breathing (is undergoing many studies for Asthma treatment)

Is a much safer recreational alternative to alcohol

there are many ways in which it is harmful and also helpful. it is very controversial and almost everyone you will talk to will have a different answer. they all need to chill. try looking up information on its history, you would be suprised to see how many uses for curing illnesses and diseases it has. is it really that much worse than smoking tobacco which cause many kinds of cancer and other fatal disease, which is also addictive. yet its still illegeall.. hmm. so many people think its incrediably harmful because they listen to what the government tells them saying its horrible. if they didnt pu tout the message that it was bad then the majority of people would want to legalize, and they would have to.

basically to much trouble for the govenrment to legalize it.

its harmful when you smoke your brains out like some potheads do today

They think it's not harmful because they have smoked so much that their brain is fried. It's amazing how dumb people can get after doing a large quantity of drugs.
