Beowulf belonged to a culture that battled for honor (think Klingons, if you're a trekkie).
In some ways, Beowulf did not change as he got older. Each time he went into battle, it was for honor and for personal glory. This personal glory was not selfish - his culture believed that battle was a form of personal edification, that one could not be complete without being a warrior.
As he became older, however, the search for honor became more personal. Death from old age was not honorable - only those who died in battle could truly be certain to join the Valhalla warriors in preparation for the final battle at the end of the world. When Beowulf battled the dragon, yes it was to protect his people, but I also believe that he hoped the battle would take his life as well, that he could be assured of an honorable death and a place among the warriors in the afterlife.
If that is so, the only change he underwent was that of being more concerned as his age advanced that his death might be a peaceful one.

As a young man, beowulf used to battle for fame and the fortunes he would get in return (the swords and sheilds and all that) but as an old man, after he becomes the ruler of a land, he battles for the protection and continuity of his people and land. Also the reasons that he fights the monsters changes through time, in the beginning he fights for fame, then for revenge, then at the end for the protection of his people.Thats the diffrence, but the similarities is that he is still very strong and admired by his people. At least thats what I understood in school.

Yeah, I agree that you probably wouldn't be interested in this if you didn't have to turn in homework about it.
But here's a hint--Beowulf is a hero. Heroes do big things. So what was he like before the big thing he did...and what was he like afterwards? Pick the things that changed him and compare him before and after.
