The other person's argument is the only thing that should be of value to you from the discussion. The person that will not listen to the other side of an argument robs himself of the best part of the discussion. If they do this often, they probably have little of worth to say, because they haven't been learning anything for a while.

Oh yes, and I also hate when you are talking calmly and making your point, then they start yelling making a scene and drawing attention to them. They usually do that because you are winning the argument, then they want to get physical. Yeah, I hate all that! If you couldn't handle the argument, then don't talk at all. Good Question!

Yes.

Then in the future when that person wants to trap you say, "I'll be happy to discuss this with you, however if I want to listen to a monolog I'll tune into "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno - at least he's funny sometimes", then walk away.

Well that doesn't get me angry but it gives me the impression that the person is not confident enough to hear the opposite view point and therefore, that proves that they do not hold a strong view point basically. I only become more sure that my view point is correct.

Yes because this turns the situation from a passionate discussion to a monologue.

Yes, it does.

Communication can only be effective if all parties involved take turns talking and listening, and true listening requires an opened mind and opined ears but CLOSED mouth.

I had a fiancee just like that.He always thought his point of view was true and correct.Even if I proved him wrong he STILL insisted that he was right. He was the most arrogant, selfish, controlling man on the face of this earth....thank God we never did get married!
