well, if the expression is x2y, then you solve it by multiplying x times 2 times y, or 2 times 2 times 3 or (2 x 2 x 3 = 12).
I am not sure what this actually means because I cannot quite concieve what this formula is in reference to, however this is the solution to that expression.

(2)(2)(3) You substitute 2 in for x and 3 in for y.
2*3*2 Now you multiply the three numbers.
2*3*2=6*2=12
Thus 12 is your answer.
