So normally if you don't get that first beep it means one of three things (in this order).

a) Your graphics card is faulty, although normally this has three beeps associated with it (if it is a fancy one, check that the power cord is plugged into it, this will cause no beeps)
b) Your ram is faulty
c) Your motherboard is faulty. (check your clock speed - not really an issue, but i had that as a problem once with the same results, and it was just set wrong)

One thing I would check though is the voltage output from the power supply. Should be 12 volts on a connector to a cdrom. Also if your power switch is faulty, you may get the power supply fan, but no power output to the board. Is your cpu fan running when the power is on?

To test your graphics card and ram just throw them in another pc that can take them.

Good luck, and if all else fails, take the parts back. Everything almost comes with a 12 month waranty. Don't take no for an answer, just get the parts swapped.

any computer will power only with a minimal of only just the motherboard, processor & memory.

im guessing either a bad power supply or u didnt connect the wires that run from the power button to the motherboard correctly.

also check to see if your power supply has a switch in the back of it. alot of newer power supplys have a black switch in the back to power it off quickly if needed to.

4got 2 add. also a bad processor will stop a computer from turning on.

Besides making sure it plugged in LOL, make sure the voltage selector switch on the power supply is set appropriately to either 120 or 240V. After you check that make sure the power supplies own switch is itself set to 1 or ON. Also check the manual to see if you connected the front power switch on the case to the proper two pin connector on the mobo, its easy to misconnect somewhere else. Also make sure you didn't accidentally connect an LED or reset switch cable to the power switch connector on the MOBO.

Is the power supply fan working? If not, that might be your problem. Obviously power isn't getting to the motherboard and so on. Have you actually tested the connections?

Check to make sure the harddrive is connected properly and is set to slave. The red side of the ribbon should be closest to the power plug on the harddrive.
Also, make sure the memory and cpu are properly inserted. Memory must be inserted in first bank first. If you have two memory sticks, could be that they are incompatible.
Disconnect everything...except the CPU and memory, start from the bottom up

I maybe your mother board is fryed. Where you sure to anti static yourself when building? Your power supply humms but does its fan go on. Maybe try a different power supply. Are you sure your processor is in correctly?

If you have the wires from the power button plugged into the right pins you probably blew the motherboard from improper static precautions
