because we aren't completely satisfied with our lives & probably never will be. I wish I was rich & didn't have to work. If I ever get that I will probably see something else in my life that I want different & wish for that. Some people believe or hope that if they think positive (wish) that it may come true if you want it bad enough. If you spend your time wishing on good things you think less of the bad. You can escape for a while.

I often wish for world domination, because that would be a very good thing to happen for me. Why would I wish for bad things?

good things? What are good things? We always define things in such immaculate ways. Why do we wish for good things? Well, that depends on what you define to be good things. if everything was good, then everything we wish for would be good too, right? and who's to say we don't wish for bad things. we is a general word, but a general word incompasses the specifics. So one who wishes another person to be dead, is still within the borders of the word we! Yep, that's right there's no way out. So we don't all wish for good things. However a specific person may wish for good things to happen. And there reason, is a reason all their own. I wish for good things to happen, because I don't like seeing people unhappy. There is my answer to your question. You are looking for a general answer, but all you will recieve is a specific answer.

Lack of clarity and proper perception of life, and the basic sense of 'seeking' security prompted by instinct of survival !
But when it comes to going to a 'good' movie, we want the hero to go through all troubles & finally truimph or 'sacrifice' to provide us a wholesome entertainment ! Well, it really needs some maturity to understand that a better 'live' entertainment awaits us if we just get rid of being so 'choosy' about life, and the 'wish for good things' to happen !

Well! What good is bad stuff?
I'd rather have good stuff happen, I think we all would.
If fact we should strive for it, make each day go in the direction of it, till we get there.
And we will have everything we need, in a material way. In every other way we already have it.
But on the material earth plane, all of us want to be safe, happy, and healthy. And we wish that for all around us as well, but that is only of their own making.

I getting annoyed at people replying simply as "Why not?" and so decided to give a proper answer.
I believe that we, as people, like to know we are in control (of our lives) and generally when something bad happens it is only bad because it is something that we didn't want to happen and we feel that we are losing control.
"Good" is a personal word, people see things differently to other people and thus different people find different things "good" and at varying degrees of "good". I mean one person could think computers are good, football is crap and someone else could see vice-verser to that or even like both computers and football.
So "good" could mean anything. I mean Hitler thought it was good to start up a fashist dictatorship in Germany whilst Lenin thought it was good to make Russia Communist/Marxist.
So "good" is to much of personal word. I will though make the assumption you mean good as textbook "good" like world peace yadadada....
And even in that case "good" is down to your better judgement and we wish for these personally but can be effected by factors due to if you deem yourself a textbook "nice" or textbook "bad" person or by social or cultural upbringings or influences.
So there you go.

A wish is a prayer and a spell. It is an interal desiring for things to become better. And any prayer or spell has both physical and mental componets. Things can only become better if one is willing to work whole heartedly to do so. Analyze your life is it so bad???

Because at the time we wish of good things, we are experiencing bad; Without bad, there is no good, and likewise.
