My new CD plays scratched on one small part of a song 90% of the time on my portable player. It plays fine on all OTHER players. Why does it play scratched only sometimes and not the others? Isn't it either scratched or not? I made sure everything is clean.

It isn't scratched-you need to clean the laser lens on your portable player. If your lens is dirty, the cd would have to be absolutely SPOTLESS to play well. You can buy a cleaning kit at pretty much any store that sells cds.

Im guessing this has something to do with the read speed on cd players, this is just a guess as its pretty much logic the fast the read speed the faster it will skip the scratches...or maybe some cd players just have a better laser !
