I agree with many of the people here, however they don't understand what type of conditioning it can have on a people. You can't erase that type of conditioning, being pure slaves in the sense of the word for basically 400 years and the other 100 years trying to seek to be seen as equals is a hard thing to let go. If you guys haven't seen that many blacks are still within a slave mentality after all those years, you'll never understand. The victimizing mindset came from those experiences and such things makes one not able to cope with reality and it is always a reminder to them.

How can you let go of something which scares still penetrate deeply within consciousness? This victimizing perception is generally handed down in families from generation to generation. You can't get rid of conditioning that quick, it would take something serious to make this not apply anymore, something that is a massive world-wide devastation that overshadows any of the things that occurred then and puts everyone on equal footing for a while, not that we aren't on equal footing, just that the vision would become clearer if we all struggled together to survive.

I'm sure that many white people hate having that over their heads, but it won't be forgotten. The thing with Black slavery that made it different from many others was that it was probably the most degrading out of all of history. It will be really hard to break that mentality that blacks have. As for myself I don’t dwell on the past, it was meant to be or it wouldn’t have occurred. I think there is a greater design beyond everything, laws which move and work upon the mind of man, laws that control this reality. To me such things were necessary eventhough how it came about was horrid. Slavery is never a good thing and I also feel bad that many white people, some who are decent people have to be judged by things they had nothing to do with. They shouldn’t be. It was not a crime of race it was a crime against humanity, human to human.

Of course slavery is wrong but some of the things besides slavery that the south were fighting for were not bad. (States Rights) Many of these other causes of the War are often over looked and have been manipulated by those who write the textbooks. But no doubt slavery is, was and forever will be wrong.

Well, it might have been fun while it lasted, but like all good things it was abused. In ancient Greece slaves were commonplace - you conquered your enemy and enslaved him. However, after a while the enslaved person could earn the right to citizenship. That made sense, because a slave is unhappy after a while, especially if they are mistreated. So it is best to free them so they don't slit your throat in the night! It was a common practice among Native North Americans to enslave captured enemy-tribe members. There again, the enslaved could maybe one day look forward to being accepted as equal (almost - brave deeds were necessary to prove worthiness). So what went on in North America lasted long partly because the slaves taken from Africa didn't know how to overcome the circumstances in a society that was hostile, difficult, disease-ridden and lawless. Naturally, skin color couldn't be changed, so even if you did manage to elevate yourself, your color showed you to be from among the lowest rank in society. But LAWS were in place in Europe that forbade slavery and many nations there recognized the equality of all men, so battles were waged over it. So slavery is a real throw-back to a lawless, rough world. It looks wrong to nearly everyone now. But now we are ALL enslaved by capitalism, and that is the thing that should be fought now.

While it was in place, some did and some didn't. Thats why we had civil war. As for me, I'd be with the North because I don't believe in slavery.
However, this did happen ages ago. The English murdered millions of American Indians to take their land. I don't believe in murder, either, but it is done.

There are those of us who believe it was wrong and stand strongly and proudly behind our decision to abolish, however, there are those select few people that still think it was a bad idea to abolish it, now personally im not one of those people i believe that the enslavement of anyone is and always will be marked as inhumane and wrong. That however will not change the fact that there are stupid people out there that want to keep it alive. Sorry but not all just the majority of us.

Oh course! Slavery is terrible, there is nothing "right" about it. All the whites I know not only think it is disgusting, but cannot understand how one man can treat another human being like that.

ok as a nil.5 white 0.5 black individual i'm uniquely qualified to stroll this rope. No, blacks do no longer deserve reparations for slavery, yet slavery has now created an financial difficulty for blacks considering the fact that they have not had almost the possibility nor preparation or time to strengthen themselves up from the slave classification (only a hundred and fifty years in the past) to citiizen, to absolutely stable balloting voters (40 years in the past). So no blacks do no longer desire reparations for slavery, yet they desire better preparation of their neighborhoods and greater college money. Its greater financial than racial, it only occurs that maximum of undesirable everybody is blacks, considering the fact that they have been the main deprived. and the white entertainment television element is stupid. seem at CBS, NBC, ABC. FOX, maximum individuals of channels surely are white entertainment television (what proportion black human beings do you realize watch CBS?) Blacks are a minority team, only like latinos, gays and others, they desire television this is geared directly to them. How come no person complains approximately telemundo for hispanics, its a similar element as wager yet there are no lawsuits, ought to or no longer it somewhat is thats it somewhat is with the aid of fact its in spanish? so if telemundo grew to become into in english (which they did launch an engligh languge channel) it may fall into the realm of wager? the reality is blacks are disporportionately undesirable, and it somewhat is an instant results of slavery, you could not exchange a human beings from slaves to the pinacle of the fashionable international in in basic terms a pair of centuries, some issues flow slower. as a human beings we ought to continuously do what we are able to to enhance all those undesirable up, genuine now they are disporportionately black and hispanic yet that ought to no longer count number.

Of course it was wrong. Always has been and always will be, no matter what race it was or is. However, I think we as Americans, no matter what race, have issues going on now that need to be addressed in the present and the future and stop with old hatred and move on.
