Software speaking... yes, there are. But the truth of the matter is, software tweaking can only go so far, and considering your specs, it won't get you far at all. You'll have to upgrade your hardware someday.
I suggest, first of all, a graphics card. It doesn't need to be expensive, all it needs is 128MB of memory. This'll fix the black & white issue. ($50-$150 should be enough)
Next, you'll probably need some RAM. With Windows Vista coming out, you'll need it anyways... try for 512MB of that. ($50-$100)
After, if you want, you can buy a new processor for your motherboard and that should lighten things up for ya. ($100-$300)
The prices are high, yes, but that's the price of gaming. Another option would just be to buy a new PC...
Oh, and if you're planning on upgrading, make sure it's compatible with your hardware first! A wise man once said: "When in doubt, go ask the professional to do it!"
Have fun, fellow gamer!

I assume by "510" you mean memory? It sounds like you need to add more memory. That will make the computer much faster. But check the price first. Sometimes a new computer is cheaper than upgrading an old one.
There isn't any connection between graphic display options and computer RAM, sorry.

You probably can play the game with 212 but it won't run properly since it's below the minimum requirement. RAM is cheap and it's also the fastest way to increase your pc performance. There are other ways to make your pc faster but it won't help your game much since you don't have enough RAM. Just get some RAM.

Sorry buddy, but the graphics card matters just as much as the amount of memory.
Look up your specs to see what you have, and also get a free utility called "Belarc Advisor" (search for it). It will show you what you have installed.
Upgrade the memory to a minimum of 512MB. If you have an AGP or PCI-Express slot, upgrade the graphics card as well. Right now, you are probably using one that's integrated on the motherboard which is slower than molasses.

Go under Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup. It will give yo a number of options on how make your computer and you just check yes or know and it will be done by the computer for you. It is a very simple, non-hassle way to clean-up your computer or PC for free.
