The same reason anyone is racist. They cannot think for themselves and have been taught by society that the other group is lower. It's just ignorance, really.

Lack of self-respect. I live in Indiana, and they make fun of Kentuckians. And vice versa. My father was from East Germany, and his father-in-law from West Germany called him a Pollock! When my Dad came to America, they called him a Nazi!
