if u were brought up with violence... it can affect u, u can either think its the right way or u can change urself.. but there was a study on a set of twin boys the were both brought up the same and 1 is gay and the other is straight... so, i dont think how some one is raised will have a affect in that area

I'm sure that for several people, one's upbringing and environment are often aggravating factors in determining sexuality and may even change one's sexuality outright (i.e. as a result of being molested, etc.). But for the most part, I believe that sexuality is determined before someone's birth. However, It's a fine line to say that sexuality is a result of genetics, because this would imply that sexuality is hereditary (or passed on between generations), which I don't think is the case. More or less, I believe that sexuality is more often than not a result of hormonal changes in the pregnant mother. But then again, I could be wrong.

I do not think it has anything to do with your upbringing. I've heard people use the argument that a bad upbringing can lead to homosexuality, well, I had a wonderful childhood and I'm gay, so that argument doesn't really work. I know there's quite a bit of scientific research that shows homosexuality is likely to be something that we are born with, so I vote for science.

Altho it is possible, I don't think upbringing affects the sexuality. Two gay men could raise a straight child or vice- versa. It is also something that isn't necessarily developed becasue it's always been there. It's more that they discover their true sexuality later on in life. Sometimes people realize it early, but it could take many years to realize or admit the truth if they are nervous or scared.

I think it can be both. A friend of mine in elementary school was gay and said he was born that way, his voice and the way he walk was a lot more feminine than us the girls ! But then I also know a divorcee who divorced his wife so that he can date his male coworker who is also gay. From what I was told, he just "found out" that he is gay during the marriage. It could be something that was born with us or maybe the seeds were developed during the early years of our lives that sometimes we don't realize soon enough. But bad or happy upbringing? I don't think so.

You are born with your sexuality. If sexuality was based solely on upbringing, then where are all the gay people from? Straight people can raise gay people the same way gays can raise straight people. However, I think if a home environment is more open about sexuality the children are more likely to be more open to ideas and experimentation.

If that were true all rednecks, children of abusive families, children of neglective parents, uneducated, low income and welfare recipients would be gay/lesbian.
No, homosexuality is NOT a psychological issue. The American Psychology Association REMOVED homosexuality from it's list of disorders back in 1973 for a REASON!

I don't think so... I had a positively lovely childhood and I'm gay as they come. Also, my friend's sister had a rotten childhood, and she's also gay. I don't think that nurture has nearly as much to do with one's orientation as nature does. I don't think, either, that homosexuality is in itself a psychological problem, but the stress regarding the matter can most certainly lead to depression, addiction, et cetera.

Of course, our up-bringing is what defines us. I am not saying that homosexuality is not a born trait. I honestly do not know that answer. But, to not think of your early childhood experiences would not affect sexual choices is absurd. People who are molested normally to not care for intimate touch. Women who are raped can instinctively fear men. Homosexuality, while not in all cases can be learned and taught.

your sexuality is determined by your hormonal system, unless you are a girl, in which case whether or not you like guys is based on your hormonal system, and whether or not you like girls depends on a different part of your brain. Either way though, these areas are wired before you are born when your stem cells are creating your brain in your mother's womb, so you are born with your sexuality.
