"Divine right" means a right given by God (or the Gods). It is something which is so basic that other people don't have the right to approve or disapprove it. For example, you might say that a child has a divine right to parents who love them. That means that it is something that every child deserves, and no one could dispute the fact that this is the way it should be.

Yes, an example would be the czars of Russia during the Bolshevik revolution. Divine Right meant God wanted certain people to rule, and no one else. It must be an heir to the throne. Only a prince could succeed the king. Right now this is still apparent in Japan. In over four decades, they finally have a male heir to the Chrysanthemum throne.... a prince was born in September . Although there are three females in the royal family, divine right called for a male. Hope this helps.

Divine right means that God has given the right to make decisions or be in a position of power. Some absolute monarchies (run by a king or queen only with no parliment) have been said to have divine right and that God has given them the powers to make all the decisions and run/rule the country.

Hello =)
Here is the kiddie version...LOL
God is always right. He doesn't make mistakes.
If he chooses someone for a job, then, that person must also be always right, because that person is chosen by god.
Since God is always right, then the people he chooses are always right.
Thus, the "divine right" of kings, and holy persons chosen by god, means that because god chose them to take these jobs, they cannot make a mistake, and therefore act according to God's will.
Namaste, and Happy New Year,
--Tom
