It means that since people have been self-aware, psychology has existed, but a short history because it has not been officially studied for as long. Sigmund Freud, in my opinion, has had the most influence on the growth of psychology because he brought psychoanalysis to the world and made psychology a subject of discussion for the masses.

This means that psychology itself goes way back to the beginning of time, but the study of it is relatively new in terms of human history. In my opinion the persons who currently hold the most influence on the growth of psychology are the pharmaceutical companies. They virtually OWN psychology in this day and age. It is big business - big bucks, and they finance a lot of studies (and advertising) to help support their business. This also comes into play when considering the "short history" of psychology. The pharmaceutical business (as far as making the big bucks) has just recently started to tap into psychology in the past couple of decades.

This is easy. Psychology has been around since the first human walked the earth. Psychology IS us, we are the thing to study...therefore we have the long past. It has only been recently in our whole history that people have decided to study our behavior and analyze why we do what we do, hence the short history. I think Freud had a huge impact on psychology. He begin to really study it and analyze our conscious mind and also our unconscious, where our dreams lie.

What is psychology? The study of the psyche. What is the psyche? Originally, it meant "soul". What does psychology study? That which cannot be seen. What is psychology now? Does it concern itself with something other than biological mechanisms? Once it was about the unconscious mind. Now it's about catscans and neurons. I think the term "psychology" has many meanings. Freud popularized the concept of the unconscious, a concept disregarded by the Skinner school. Really, what does psychology study?? I don't know anymore.

Means it has been going on forever and still nothing to show for it...people playing God.

I have heard people say things like:
"therapists are there for people to take problems out on"
"my shrink" - is it just me ....the word shrink sticks out quite a bit "head shrinker" ....witch doctor what's the difference?
I've heard of them labeling truth as anger...boy this one really get the ball rolling ; |

These people couldn't hold a candle to a relationship with God....the rest of it is all human theory. How is it anyone could see themselves larger than God? Human beings are not equations or story problems and there is absolutely no way one could ever solve problems if a person is not acknowledging truth. How would anyone know how to respond to someone if the slightest/biggest element of truth could be missing?
