Eric Clapton has barred his soul through his music for decades.
B.B. King has paid his dues and earned the honorary title, "The King of Blues."

Early influences:
Bessie Smith and Robert Johnson.

A strong pack:
Janis Joplin "Ball and Chain"
T-Bone Walker
Muddy Waters
John Lee Hooker
Taj Mahal
Jimmy Hendrix was a pioneer in distortion and feedback
John Mayall and Blues Breakers
Stevie Ray Vaughan -- his brother is trying to keep the flame alive

That should give you some great listening. Good luck honing your style.
