how many miles. where is the rattle coming from. if it is underneath the car, that is just a heat shield come loose. they are just tack welded on. and a weld broke. the engine light......it could be so many things. brakes, 02 sensor, a relay or sensor on the motor. does it run rough. skip while driving. need more info. let me know.

If its something like .. last week it said "10 miles till service!" and now it says "Service Engine Soon!" that just means you drove your car so many miles and now it has to go to a shop and be checked by a mechanic to make sure everything works properly. Im not sure if this is the same as getting a sticker, because thats the law. It may be the law or just a suggestion you should listen to. If its a yellow/red light on your dash.. meaning its an indicator telling you something is wrong.. then first of all..dont drive the car.. especially if its something with the engine.. last thing you want is to hafta buy a new engine... but i doubt your engine is the problem.. the engine light generally turns on if anything bad is wrong with your car. If the sound stays the same when you drive and doesnt worsen when u drive its prolly something small and not a MAJOR part. but still ... better safe then sorry. If it gets louder or changes in anyway when you start your car or 'rev' it up then that makes me think its your exhaust. Your piping may be loose or a bracket may have fallen off (i had one break in half randomly lol) take it to a mechanic and tell him whats wrong and what you think it is. (try to sound smart and say you think something came loose in the exhaust system and you want a quick fix -- mechanics like to overcharge people when they dont know what they are talking about. =p) you can drive with a bad exhaust.. but the environment wont take too kindly to it.
Try and see if you smell anything bad coming out or smoke, you prolly wont if its just a loose bracket... but in the chance you do.. thats usually a good sign that its your exhaust.

you have to get it to a shop....they are the only 1's who have the computer needed to reset the light.
It could be anything from a dirty filter to something bad. The rattle doesn't sound good.
Check ur oil and water for any discoleration.
Even the link to sound wont help as I would need to see and hear it at the same time.
Hope it's summing simple.
Prayers to ya,
G
