Depends on what you deem to be "professional" -- the answer can vary in the US from $20 to $2000 and up.
Things are changing fast in this area of activity and you might find that the actual production of prints can be separated from the studio session. Last year I had a session of about 45 minutes and over 50 poses for $120 for the CD with copyright to all the photos. The best part of the deal was that I also got the name of the lab they used and I then got them printed there myself for a very reasonable price each -- fully professional printing for mall prices.

our engagement pics were about 200 bux for 6 different poses... then you pay for each individual picture (this was at "the picture people" in the mall. Sears works the same way, check the paper for coupons from them.. they often do specials and half off deals. Our wedding pictures were 2500... often you can look in the phone book and find a photographer that will take pics of you wherever you want.. local park.. your home.. for fairly cheap if they are just starting out or looking for work. Senior picture time is comming up.. so call quickly, they will start getting booked fast.

My family had their portrait done at Sears two weeks ago and they had a holiday special going on with no session fee that was about $70 for 8 sheets. You can call your local store up for prices after you make an appointment online at http://www.searsportrait.com/cpi/en-US/locations/
The photographer we had got great shots and was very professional

I like having a professional looking picture in all sizes. not a " Printed " out picture. They are 4 months 2 and 4. My oldest has preschool pictures from his school that a professional comes and takes pictures.

a lot of money and u pretty much have to have an agent. They take like 10% at least from hat you make and they get u all the jobs and shoots. Without an agent you wont really get noticed. Agenst cost a lot of $$$. + u have to have a good figure but try places in town.♥

if you go on www.craigslist.com you can find photographers that will photograph you for free (to add more pictures to their portfolios). you can find someone in your area, check out their stuff, talk to them about what you'd like, and go get nice photo's for free. make sure to bring a friend with you (preferably male just in case).
otherwise you're going to have to blow about $200 for decent photo's.
good luck!
