Resilience-Many times throughout the book. Just by walking out his front door. Trying to save the Dwarfs from the Trolls. Playing a deadly game with Gollum. Rescuing the Dwarfs from the Elven prisons. Re-entering the passage way to chat with Smaug. He knew what the consequences would be if he failed, yet he carried on.

Cunning -> he "out-riddles" Gollum (In the book)
Bravery -> he enters the dragon's lair (In the book)
Good Heartedness -> he love to blow smoke rings with old friend (Gandalf) (In the book)

annoying, he also has traits of a coward but comes through when his friends need him
