The no smoking in public places is already the law in Ireland and here in Scotland. Both countries traditionally contain a higher percentage of heavier smokers than England and Wales. Seen anything on the news about riots and demonstrations? People have just got on with it and adapted. You will be able to smoke outside the pub, cafe etc., and you will adjust. A new word came into being when the smoking ban came in and you will experience it for yourselves soon - SMIRTING!
Whilst your outside having a cig ( I had put f a g but this stupid system won't let you use the British term!)you will engage in conversation with strangers, and you may start to FLIRT whilst you SMOKE.

Look, I know this is going to put the cat amongst the pigeons, but when it comes to Roy Castle....please.....there are *other* reasons for getting cancer besides smoking or inhaling second hand smoke. If smoking was the sole cause, then everyone who had worked in smoky night clubs would have copped it. It hasn't happened. The link between cancer and life style is imperfectly understood even now. If second hand smoke is that deadly, I should be dead by now, as my mother smoked throughout her pregnancy and smoked heavily until long after I grew up and left home. My father, who is 83 has lived with heavy smokers all his life. He's still perfectly healthy, as is his wife who has smoked since she was 12. It's just not that simple.
Please kindly exercise your critical faculties and regain a sense of proportion non-smokers. I should be more worried about all the chemicals you're consuming in your processed food, your chemical sprayed fresh food, your hormone and antibiotic adulterated meats; your soap, shampoo and deodorants; your cleaning fluids, your new carpets, "wood" flooring, and upholstery, your teflon coated pots and pans, and the fumes from exhausts, paints, varnishes etc. Second hand smoke is the least of it.

most pubs will have outside areas, I know of a few that have huge gazebos with heating and comfy chairs. This wont be the end of smoking and drinking, just pubs that have no beer garden.
You will see a lot of carparks disappearing and the yards being converted.
The Market will always win

Come to our pub in Scotland & smoke in the beer garden with the rest of us lepers that way you won't have to listen to the brigade who would rather ignore the coke heads who snort in the toilets but would shop you if you were having a cig. Why the thumbs down did I upset a coke head? Tough.

As smokers are slowly committing suicide I suggest that each smoker buys themself a coffin and when they have the urge they should go and lie in it while they have a cigarette.
Not only would it give them somewhere to smoke it would also help their families by keeping the cost of their funerals to a miniumum.
Rest in Peace.

I think there should be speific smoking bars or something, where people could smoke together, and die together. If people want to smoke then smoke with the other idiots who want to smoke. There's no reason why it should be everyone elses problem.
