I know there is poverty (all countries have poverty) and that the people are not super wealthy (majority lives in apartments). But there is no gaping wealth gap, and it does not butt into other countries' business. The people have a significantly lower rate of heart disease and obesity (although they can afford a lot less antibiotics). Because it is an atheist country (for the most), there are no religious conflicts. There is no racism in China amongst the people (even though China is conposed of different people with different dialects and culture.) "Hollywood" -like things are a lot less important in China compared to the Western world, and the Chinese highly value education.

What do you think? Yes, I know China is FAR from perfect (the toilets are disturbing). But while it lacks the wealth that the US has, it has things that money can not buy too.

While it's true China has some amazing qualities, one also has to look at the reasons for them and in China's case it's because they were in a Communist dicatatorship. However, I am truly amazed by the economy in China. Their shift from a centrally planned economy to a free market is no small feat. Granted, they still may be in danger of failure, like the U.S.S.R. but if they succeed they will be the strongest economy in the world.

China is not a developed country yet, even though it's the 2nd biggest economy in the world now. Their human development index will still need another 20 or 30 years to catch up with the developed countries in europe, north america or their neighboring countries like japan, south korea and taiwan. Apart from that, china needs to address issues with their environmental problems, labor rights, counterfeiting issues. China has huge economy and potentials but heaps of domestic problems as well.

I would say its becoming an Ideal country, but its not there yet. Democracy is on the rise there. The people of China don't have the materialistic attitudes we do. Most people I talk to who have been ther compare their culture to what we were in the 50's.

the gap between the rich and the poor in china is at least as wide as that in US, and the difference is: US poor can live off social security, and chinese poor is left to die. there's no racism in china, maybe, but chinese people bias against people from different places and with different accents all the time. china may have lower rate of obesity for now, but it increases fast.

China is a beautiful country. Main cities like Beijing are rather polluted (but that's obviously due to the population)

The rural areas are gorgeous too! And stuff there is soooo cheap it just makes me smile to think about China!

when Saddam was being hanged... they were talking about executions around the world...

last year the U.S. had 60 some over the last year... if I remember correctly... China had around 1,700 (that they reported)...

even if you account for the population difference, that's still about 10 times the number of executions...

so... while it may have good aspects... don't get on the wrong side of the law...

and probably don't say anything bad about the government...

I like free speech... China... not so much...

They also don't have things like Nascar, the NFL, plentiful jobs, private property, privacy. There isn't any racism, because they do not welcome people from all over the world. There is a wealth gap, you are either rich or you are poor. It is not an athiest country. They have faiths, and worships different gods, they are very spiritual. If they were a republic, like the US is, then maybe the are becoming an Ideal country, but they don't, so they aren't.

You seem to know quite a bit about China. How come you are still so uninformed? I didn't hear you mention anything about the way they treat the citizens who speak out about their government or their women or their slave labor. Maybe you should do a little more research before asking such a question. What will you think when we end up in a war with them over Taiiwan?

China is an emerging democracy and is a very valuable ally to have.

Every country is rushing to claim construction rights and trade agreements.
