No i don't think that they are. If you knew the time and the money that goes into the development a game, then i don't think you would ask the question like that. For example take a game like madden, they have to pay the NFL and people like john madden for the right to use there likeness and names, also they have graphic teams, stop motion development and testers, marketing and production. So they spend a lot of money on the games, so paying 59.00 bucks for a game is not that bad.

I think to the consumer, video games are overpriced. They've always been overpriced though. Rarely do you go out to buy a game and say "Well, video games are pretty cheap so I'll pick one up". That's why a lot of developers are putting some of their more popular games at prices as low as $20, to attract more buyers.

The newer gen. games now are $60!! I have an Xbox 360 and I haven't bought one game at $60 so far, I think it's just too ridiculous.

If you're worried about game pricing, just be patient. It will go down eventually (we hope). Also, I like to buy a lot of games off of http://www.ebay.com . Some people think it's risky, but it really isn't. Most of the games you buy from people are in good quality and a lot cheaper.

It's always a question of supply and demand. If no one wants the item then the item will drop in value, while if everyone wants the item then the price goes up. Video games are very popular, thus there starting price is high, but you will notice older games and less well made games can be purchased at prices lower than twenty dollars.

Video games are both under priced and over priced.

They are under priced because the cost of development, publishing, and marketing probably wouldn't be recovered from the game sales, especially if the games are marketed toward specific audiences.

They are over priced because their prices aren't what the audiences really want.

The same goes for other form of mass media.

PC Games are the only format that are priced according to the market.
All other formats are overpriced, only because PC users are prepared to wait for the prices of games to come down before purchasing.

With consoles, the attitude is to buy upon release.

i think video games are fine. i mean compared to a good shirt which is like $15 on average. i think a video game that takes up a lot of leisure time is a great price
