There's a lot going on in my life right now and if I do what makes me happy then I feel like I'm going against society and what makes it "right" in the eyes of others. Why do I feel the need to justify everything I do to everyone who asks? I know I have a horrible need to fit in and make everything as normal as possible but I'm tired of it. How do you stop feeling like you need to explain yourself?

You're right, everyone wants to fit in. Some may argue this answer, because people may appear to have their own lifestyle that is different from everyone elses, but in reality, there's a group out there that does the same thing. If you're tired of following the crowd, then don't. That's the most simple way I can put it, because you can't depend on others to help YOU change, you must depend on yourself.

It's only natural to want to fit in-who doesn't? But you have to learn to accept yourself and be you, who YOU are and not worry about how others will feel towards you. The main person that you have to count on is you, and you will always be there for yourself. You must have friends that are there for you too. You should never change yourself and try to be someone you're not just to fit in. You have to love yourself before others will love you

There are two reasons why people please others.

One- for the need to be useful and pleasant to others or to show meaningful selfless praise to them.

Two- To be socially accepted: this is more due to the result of inferiority complex. Most of us have it with varying degrees, the extreme end of this is the arrogant people who do not feel a need to please others at all.

i don't know, because i have the same problem. sometimes i wonder if it has to do with childhood and stuff like that. like, the praise i got from my dad was so rare that i was always after more. and so now, i'm always trying not to rock the boat, always making sure people are happy (which usually means i'm not).

you feel this because you will feel better about yourself and your self-esteem will grow. If others praise you and take intrest in you, you will feel pleased.
