A very interesting question ...
Many scientists believe insects on our planet have evolved from crustacea (crab and lobster-like animals). These invertebrates have smaller brain size than fish; so do insects (even smaller than crustacea). Hence it is more unnlikely that they will evolve into superior beings. Some insects only experience fierce impressions of sight as consciousness (such as flies), while others such as ants are believed to have no consience at all. I believe some animals have no ability to evolve and eventually will die out. Many insects are becoming extinct because of the ruthless behavior of man.
It is quite logical to assume that if life exist on another planet somehow far away, that it will have evolved quite similar to this planet on earth. There are certain conditions required in order to grow life: (a) there must be oxygen, (b) water is required (c) there must be formed proteins by merging water with amino acids.
However, to answer your question, I do not know. On earth reptiles evolved into mammals because of temperature change. If on another planet, dinosaurs existed and did not become extinct, they could have evolved into intelligent beings, but it would take far much more time than mammals, because most mammals are much more intelligent.

If they dwell deep inside the Earth, aren't they not really aliens?
That said, something might be able to live down there. If the rock down there's glowing hot, the glowing might be able to provide energy to support life. Insects evolving to live down there, however, is quite unlikely, unless they became sapient up here then used technology to move down there. And if they didn't evolve to live there, then that's two entirely different types of life on the same planet while so far we've found none on other planets, which is also unlikely.
So all in all, it's unlikely.

Apes and humans have a common ancestor; we did not descend from apes. However, what makes you think this isn't happening? One celled organisms were not exactly smart! A cat, by comparison, is much smarter. There have been numerous species seen to make use of tools, once thought the exclusive domain of man. If you look at a biology chart, you will see that it looks exactly like a tree. While there are several species that appear to have good intelligence, man not only has intelligence, but also excellent manual dexterity, a winning combination. We are smart, and can manipulate our environment, which puts us on top. Some have suggested that dolphins are nearly, or as smart as us, but they lack the ability to build as we can. Monkeys are fairly clever, and can manipulate to a certain degree, but not as much as we can. We are not so unique - more like lucky. We have several things going for us, in a higher concentration than other animals.

The Klaxiie are a race of sentient insects that evolved on a torsus orbiting Garis m2. They have not been able to harness technology, but their art is sought after by several species on dozens of planets. Their size is tied to their function within the nest and the krydor (drones) reach a length of 7/8ths of a meter and are the largest of the species. They do not survive outside of their environment and have come into complete balance with it.

Aliens do not reside on earth and will probably never visit here.
If they looked like insects or like us,we may never know but both scenarios are possible.

Possible, but more than likely they are Dolphins. And they have been telling us of the world's upcoming destruction (to make room for an interstellar bypass) but we refuse to listen!
So long and thanks for all the fish!!
